Brazilian singer Luma Elpidio and her husband Igor Syracuse spent three months in a country that is closed to the gospel, where they preached the gospel among Muslims. After their trip they testified on Instagram how the Lord miraculously saved them from an ambush, Guiame.com.br reports.

In the last year and a half, singer Luma Elpidio has been offline from her social media. At the time, she and her husband Igor Syracuse, who are part of the leadership team of Dunamis, did not tell anything about the details of the decision.

Now back on Instagram, Luma shares that they were on a mission in a persecuted country in Africa, and that for security reasons, the couple didn’t post anything on social media.

Sent by a missionary school, Luma and Igor spent three months in the country, preaching the Gospel among Muslims. Last Tuesday (November 8), during a live stream on Instagram, they talked about their experience in the mission field.

Dangerous situations
“It’s a place where they kill Christians. There were many dangerous situations, it was very intense. We couldn’t talk about Jesus openly, we used strategies. We wore the kind of clothes they wear”, the singer said.

Igor added that some Muslims tried to buy Luma in exchange for camels. “They look at women as objects, it’s very sad”, Luma commented, explaining that it is a cultural practice in the country. The couple also testified about how God miraculously saved them from an ambush that was set to kill them.

Preaching to muslims
Together with the mission team, Luma and Igor made friends with people on the streets, creating opportunities to share the Gospel. In one of these situations, the missionaries received direction from the Lord to go to a frontier town. Through words of knowledge, the team was guided to find someone named Mary in a house with a blue door.

The team traveled to the city, where earlier a terrorist attack on a Christian university had taken place, and Luma ended up meeting a young Muslim woman. After talking, the woman invited Luma to come and pray at her house. When they arrived at the place, the door of the house was blue and the mother and daughter of the young lady were called Mary, which confirmed the directions given by the Lord.

After praying for the three women, a Muslim man who was in the house asked Luma if she was married and what kind of job her husband had. As they were undercover and could not reveal their true identities, the singer said that her husband took care of a farm, as Igor manages Dunamis Farm. The man then said that he also worked at a farm and grew potatoes and tomatoes. He invited the couple to visit the site the next day.

Warned by God
“We thought: what an excellent opportunity to talk about Jesus”, Igor said. But as the team planned the visit to the farm for the next day at the mission base that evening, two missionaries arrived to meet them. “I don’t know how they found out about us, nobody knew where we were,” Igor continued, noting that the team didn’t know them either.

They shared with their visitors that an opportunity had arisen to evangelize and that they were going to visit a farm to share the Good News with Muslims. The visiting missionaries then looked at each other and said: “There are no farms here. It is probably an ambush.”

Angels
Igor testified: “God literally sent these missionaries to give us a warning.” The couple said they never saw the two missionaries again who had warned them of the danger they were in, and commented that they could very well have been angels sent by God.

Soon after, they received an audio from a Brazilian intercessor who was praying for their protection. “God woke her up at dawn, at 4 am in Brazil, with a vision. Where we were, at the same time it was 1 pm – it was when I was at the Muslim family’s house”, Luma said. “She had a vision of a table with several Muslim men, making plans to kill us. And she didn’t know what country we were in”.

With two warnings from God, the missionaries decided to cancel their visit to the farm and leave the town ahead of schedule. “We were in shock, because we were in the most dangerous city, where there are infiltrated Islamists” Luma said.

Freedom
After returning safely to Brazil, the couple testified about the impact of preaching in a country that is closed to the Christian faith. “Now that I am back, I value our freedom much more. So many people are longing for the privilege of freedom to worship and read the Word, but don’t have it. And we have it and we don’t value it”, the singer reflected. Igor added: “When you go to a place like this, you start to value the battle for freedom of expression, freedom of coming together to worship and religious freedom”.
