This weekend, Nick Vujicic spoke to more than 3000 schoolchildren about his ‘Stop Bullying’ campaign and about his own personal experience with bullying in Madrid, Spain. He encouraged his listeners to never give up and spoke about how God helped him overcome his limitations.

Nick Vujicic was born in Australia without arms and legs. As a child he was bullied, and it got so bad that he tried to take his life when he was only ten years old. Through the years, he overcame his bodily limitations through his faith in Jesus. He says: “One day at a time, with God I can do it all.”

Now, he shares his faith and brings a message of hope through lectures all over the world. This weekend, Nick shared his story in Spain. The first of his talks took place on Friday at the Vallmont School, where 1300 primary and secondary school pupils from Villanueva del Pardillo in Madrid listened to his story. Also present were 75 teachers, fifty education professionals, and the mayor of the municipality.

The people you love most need you not to hold their arms, but their hearts.”

In between jokes and laughs, Nick encouraged the people with powerful ideas. He told the children that they are wonderful the way they are, and used his own story to spread his message. “I thought, what future do I have in life if I can’t do anything for myself? Who’s going to want to marry me? How am I going to have a child I can’t hold in my arms? But you know what? One day you grow up, and you get married, and you have a family, and you realise that the people you love most need you not to hold their arms, but their hearts.”

Impact

Nick’s message had a great impact on the people present. Nick had suggested that children apologized to one another if they felt they had to. After Nick’s talk, children were hugging and apologizing, applying his message then and there.

Also the mayor was touched. Nick expressed his wishes to the mayor to take these anti-bullying talks to other cities in Spain with his organisation, Life Without Limbs. The mayor agreed to take Nick’s proposal to the Assembly of Madrid. “I am convinced that this message against bullying must be heard in the schools of our country,” he said.

On Friday evening, a press conference with Nick took place. Due to the interest in listening and the amount of questions asked, the event lasted for two hours. On Saturday morning, another 1800 students, teachers, and monitors attended Nick’s talk at the Congress Palace on Madrid. The main event was an evangelistic conference on Saturday evening called “Living without limits”.

The main conference was broadcasted by the private television channel Toro TV and by the evangelical channel Solidaria TV. The talks held on Saturday were followed live by more than 500 organisations, schools, and churches.
