Evangeliques Info reports that since the beginning of 2022, 7,1 billion people have access to parts of the Bible in their native language. More than 75 percent of humanity has access to a complete digital version of the Bible.

This is what a report from the Alliance biblique universelle (ABU) reports. Together with other Bible translating organizations, the ABU will continue to provide people with access to the Bible. There are now still around 1,5 billion people who do not have a complete written version of the Bible. 219 million people do not have access to the Bible in their native language at all.

Over the course of 2021, Bible organizations from over the whole world have translated scripture in 90 languages. These languages are spoken by 794 million people, which is around 10 percent of the world population. The ABU reports that 11 million people are now able to read the Bible for the very first time.

The ABU aims to have finished 1200 scripture translations by the year 2038. So far, 103 have been finished and 312 are in the works. However, it is very expensive and labor intensive to translate the Bible. Since the ABU and its translators strive for the highest quality, extensive training, support, and around 30 million dollars annually are needed.

Bibles for deaf and blind people are also in the works. This is going to take some time, since there are 400 sign languages and 133 braille languages found in the whole world.

Thanks to the internet, the Bible can be stored and shared to 6,1 billion people. These digital versions can be found on websites or apps like YouVersion or global.bible.
