Although anxiety increases as Beijing keeps raising threats aimed at Taiwan, Taiwanese Christians rise up in a God-fearing response. An estimated 40,000 Revival Prayer Groups (RPG) are rising up, with roughly 120,000 prayer participants. In 2023, China’s military published a video with visuals of simulated attacks on Taiwan.
Currently, Taiwan faces almost daily threats coming from the Chinese military. Rather than bowing down to fear, Taiwan’s Christians bow their knees to pray. 24 hours a day, people take time to meet up to pray together for revival in their land. Brian Lu, pastor of Shekinah House of Bread of Life in Taipei, told CBN News: ‘’The united prayers and fasting prayers of the churches in Taiwan are much more than ever before. It’s an unprecedented prayer movement.’’
Over 100,000 people praying every single day
Moreover, Don Young, an American missionary who served in West Africa for 15 years, recalls a similar theme of shaking when he visited Taiwan three years ago. The Lord revealed to him in 2021 that there would be a shaking in the nation of Taiwan. He recalls the Lord telling him that the time is short, the hour urgent, and that it’s time to pray. By bringing the message to church leaders of the island, a prayer movement was birthed that swept through the entire nation. What started as a handful of people praying around the clock in groups for their Taiwan, became a big movement of more than a hundred thousand people praying every single day: this is the Revival Prayer Group (RPG) movement.
Pastor Brian Lu foresees that the RPG has a bright future, regardless of war breaking out or not. He told CBN: ‘’Because RPG has two or three people in a group, so if one day a war happens and there are no physical buildings that people can meet in, we can still pray in small groups so the church will not be affected.’’
Uniting churches and denominations
Reverend Yang, leader of the Taiwan Christian Alliance, testifies of the rarity of this movement. Because this movement supersedes differences between churches and unites denominations, Yang envisions that the legacy of the RPG will be unity in the nation.
The RPG does not only bring together pastors and christians in Taiwan一even members of China’s underground church movement are taking part. The current goal is to have 300,000 RPG groups that also merge with churches in China. In this way, Yang longs to pray with the goal of affecting China as well.
Non-believers coming to Christ through the RPG
Pastor Huang, Senior Pastor of 101 Church, testifies that even non-believers are joining the RPG through hearing testimonies of how God answers prayers. They are coming to the Lord by simply attending the prayer meetings.
Pastor Lu asks for prayer from around the world amidst this dangerous situation一that God’s peace would unite the relationship between China and Taiwan, so that the ethnic Chinese do not harm one another but rather spread the gospel together.
