From October 2022 to April 2023, ten cities in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria will host concerts of the choir-musical Martin Luther King. Each concert, amateur singers are invited to join the choir, Evangelical Focus reports.

The Foundation Creative Church and the German Protestant Church (EKD) organized the first concert in 2019. The Federation of Free Evangelical Churches of Germany supported the project. From 2019 onwards, more than 60,000 people attended the concerts.

Everyone is invited to join the choir, also if you are not a member of a choir or church. The choir includes singers from the age of 7 till the age of 91. In some cities, more than 1200 people have signed up to join the choir and have already been rehearsing.

The musical is inspired by King’s famous ‘I have a dream’, and wants to show what was behind this speech.

Christoph Terbuyken and Hanjo Gäbler created the musical, already having created several other Christian musicals. Andreas Malessa, who is a journalist and a Martin Luther King expert, helped them create King’s story. They say on their website that the musical is an abbassador, “for the ‘Good News’ of the Christian faith that motivated Dr. King, and for an awareness that the commitment of each individual counts for the good of people and the environment. King’s dream and his non-violent commitment to human rights inspire reflection on world events and one’s own actions with a world-changing character.”

The songs written for the musical are written in a way that churches or other similar gatherings can use them.

The following cities in Germany will host the concerts: Bayreuth, Wetzlar, Göpingen, Lemgo, Rostock, Neu-Ulm, and Göttingen. In Switzerland they will be held in Thun and Sankt Gallen. In Austria, Salzburg will host the concert.
