Alliance Biblique Française is creating a special Bible for the homeless in France, together with several other Christian organisations. The aim is that the ‘Bible de la rue’, or ‘Bible of the street’ is ready for distribution around Christmas 2022.
The project arose out of requests from organisations that work with homeless people. They wanted to have a Bible that they could pass out to the homeless in France. Many existing Bibles are not suited for homeless needs, because they are often not rainproof and have very small letters.
This Bible is different from other Bibles in several ways. The Bible can be closed with a zipper to protect it against the weather and life on the street. The letters are printed in a larger format than regular Bibles, since many homeless have vision problems. In addition to that, the Bible will include QR codes that lead to websites that are useful for the homeless. The Bible will use the Word of Life-translation: a translation accessible to many people and also suited for foreigners.
Together with Alliance Biblique, organisations like the Salvation Army, Mission Évangélique, and Agapé Street help to realize this project. They want to distribute 2000 Bibles by the end of this year, which they are trying to accomplish through fundraising.
