Pro Familia is a German organisation with many offices throughout the country. These counselling centres give advice about sexuality, pregnancy, and abortion. The Administrative Court in Mannheim decided that prayer vigils are allowed to take place in front of the Pro-Familia offices.
After the city of Pforzheim prohibited a silent prayer campaign in front of the local Pro Familia office, pro-life activist Pavica Vojnović appealed this decision. The Pforzheim city council stated that the prayer vigils would cause stigma for the women visiting the centre, and that it would infringe on their rights. The prayer campaign was only allowed if it took place out of sight of the counselling centre.
At first, Vojnović’s appeal was dismissed. Now, she has won her court case. The judge has decided that prayer vigils are allowed in front of the Pro Familia office. They cannot come together right in front of the office entrance, but they can stand in the sight of the building. The decision was made on the terms that the prayer vigils should not lead to physical or psychological challenges for women visiting the office.
